Simon Lawton

Simon has an extensive track record as a finance director in rapidly growing entrepreneurial businesses, notably Tribal Group Plc which he helped grow over ten years from a start-up in 2000 to a £250m+ services business. At Tribal he recruited and led bids for major government contracts, M&A, procurement, property and IT projects; he led its AIM float in 2001; a £21m capital fund raising; admission to Main LSE listing in 2002; a £45m takeover of a listed group in 2003; he co-negotiated the sale of a start-up Health business realising profit of £27m in 2007. He played a major role in executing over 45 acquisitions and six start-up businesses with incentivised management equity share structures. He negotiated and led over 11 debt finance rounds with banks with the largest facility being £180m. He was also a Founder Trustee of Tribal Group Foundation, funding health / education projects in Africa and India/Nepal. The Foundation secured over £750k in four year period. Simon left Tribal in May 2010 and became CFO of Cabo Delgado Investments Limited where he worked on a business turnaround and M&A project in Mozambique, Africa. He left in March 2012 and is currently CFO board advisor to 5 SMEs (SME’s and start-ups) and holds 4 Non-Executive director posts. Simon helped launch a new start-up support service business in March 2013, Benula Capital Limited, with our other non-executive director, Miles Hunt who he has known for 14 years. Simon has been working with Mark and Jeremy since March 2013. Simon has been operating at FD level since 1994. He started his accounting training at KPMG after leaving Reading University in 1982 with a BA Hons. in Accounting and Economics. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1986 and became a Fellow in 1996. Simon lives in Gloucestershire with his wife and two children. He enjoys sport, hill walking, travel, history, economics, wine and family life.
