1. What does it feel like to work at TFL?

“TFL is essentially a very complex, political business that changes every five years; making it an incredibly exciting place to work! More than anything, it provides me with a great sense of purpose and drive to work for an organisation that’s so impactful in our capital city.”

2. What do you do to enjoy a positive work / life balance?

“I am a very keen cyclist and enjoy completing 100 mile cycle rides to raise money for charities like MacMillan. My role at TFL allows me to strike a positive balance between my professional commitments and fitting in time for training and my involvement in various cycling clubs.”

3. What’s your greatest success to date in your role at TFL?

“Without a doubt it’s building the recruitment team. My current team is perfect and comprises a blend of ex-agency and internal recruiters. We’ve built a strong culture based on outputs not presenteeism which has been instrumental in getting us to where we are today.”

4. What’s the first thing you do in the morning to set your day up for success?

“It would actually have to be my train journey into the office. It’s 45 minutes of quiet time when I relax, watch the countryside fly by, plan out my day and enjoy some much needed space for reflection.”

5. What books or articles have you read recently that have inspired you?

“‘The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck: A Counterintuitive Approach to Living a Good Life’ by Mark Manson. This book really resonated with me, not because it teaches you ‘not to care’, but rather it helps you choose what you ought to care about. I would highly recommend it.”

6. Favourite technology hack you’d recommend to your peers?

“Whilst it’s nothing ground breaking and is perhaps a little ‘obvious’, is probably my ‘must have’ in my recruitment tool kit. Once you’ve cracked it, it really works. However, you need to take the time to invest in your supplier relationship, work in partnership with them and understand what’s going to best serve your individual business.”
