The facts don’t lie. Employees who are ‘engaged’ at work will be happier, healthier, more fulfilled, and as a result, will deliver higher levels of productivity and innovation. In fact, happy workers are 13% more productive according to research by Oxford University’s Saïd Business School. Surely a no-brainer for any company that wants to run a successful and sustainable business?
Employee disengagement costs the UK £340bn every year! (source: Hay Group) Not great reading for HR professionals or exec teams. But, the good news is that as a nation we’re trying to do something about it…
Under The Companies (Miscellaneous Reporting) Regulations 2018 Act businesses employing more than 250 people are now required to report on how they have engaged with their people and considered their interests when making company decisions. This legislation affects approximately 10,000 businesses in the UK and aims to ensure that our largest companies are more transparent and accountable to their employees.
At this Think Tank, run in partnership with the Happiness Index, we’re looking at the evolution of employee engagement and how it plays out at each stage of the employee lifecycle. From on-boarding through to exit, and the steps that HR Leaders ought to be taking to collect data, gain insight and evoke positive change.
