HRLTT – Succession Planning: Combining Internal and External Talent into a Single Pipeline
October 11, 2018 @ 9:00 am - 12:30 pm| Free
A must attend for any senior HR or Recruitment professional wanting to move from a reactive succession planning model to a strategic approach that supports the business and provides a level playing field for internal and external candidates.
Hosted by Paul Dempsey (Global Talent & Development Director) and Lenneke Keehan (Associate Director – Leadership and Talent) at King.
As organisations mature and grow, a critical component of future-proofing their success is to ensure that ‘ready now’ successors (or as close to ‘ready now’ as possible!) have been identified for business-critical roles. However, one of the obvious challenges with Succession Planning is that you’re preparing for a hypothetical situation that may or may not happen! Of course we can consider certain variables (like retirement, for instance) to help us plan accordingly, but typically we’re not sure of exact timescales and the precise nature of the role on offer.
One of the common challenges businesses face when it comes to Succession Planning is falling into a reactive state of identifying successors (particularly external candidates). At this HR Leadership Think Tank we’ll be discussing how organisations can successfully move to a more strategic and proactive Succession Planning model, and ultimately how both external and internal candidates can be combined into a single pipeline.
Key decision points will include:
- Ensuring the ‘playing field’ is even between both internal and external candidates
- Building out ‘success criteria’ for roles earmarked in Succession Plans
- Leveraging technology to help manage the process
- Measuring the success and impact of Succession Plans and internal mobility
