Ahead of 2018’s most rapidly sold-out Think Tank, we caught up with our host, Jackie, who’s holding this much anticipated session for us on Brexit. In addition to discussing our withdrawal from the EU, Jackie shares her insight on setting up international ‘Site Leadership’ teams at TripAdvisor, and her top recommended book of the moment… read on to get to know our host a little better!
Our Brexit Think Tank, taking place on 22nd November in London, will bring together senior strategic HR professionals to discuss how we manage employee expectations and best prepare for the impact of Brexit. But for now, it’s over to Jackie to share her experience of leading the People Operations teams at TripAdvisor…
1. What does it feel like to work at TripAdvisor?
Very collaborative. People are smart, challenging and most of all a lot of fun.
2. What do you do to enjoy a positive work/life balance?
Make sure I exercise every day (a mixture of cardio, weights and yoga), make time for friends and family during the week and TRY to switch off during evenings and weekends.
3. What’s your greatest success to date in your role at TripAdvisor?
Setting up Site Leadership teams in London, Singapore and Sydney to focus on creating cohesive teams and career paths in the absence of official leadership teams in our International sites.
4. What’s the first thing you do in the morning to set your day up for success?
Go on my mindfulness app on my commute to get me in the right frame of mind for the day
5. What books or articles have you read recently that have inspired you?
I’m reading (and listening to the podcasts that accompany the book) Radical Candour by Kim Scott – she is very inspirational and uses real-life examples to demonstrate how to work successfully with other people through honest and candid feedback.
6. Favourite technology hack you’d recommend to your peers?
To search a website for something specific type the following:- “search: website keywords” – this quickly gets you to the information you need without having to scroll through endless results.
