Interim HR Manager FTC

Interim HR Manager – 12 months – Windsor – Up to £45k FTC

As the HR Manager you (alongside your HR Administrator) will be responsible for supporting a demanding client group of approximately 450 staff. The client group consists of a diverse range of roles ranging from teachers to coaches, theatre specialists, nurses, and clinical psychologists.

As HR Manager you will operate as a ‘critical friend’ to your client groups, providing proactive guidance and support. The role involves a great deal of stakeholder management and using a coaching approach to try to effect positive change. As part of the role, you will also have regular interaction with four board-level directors. In addition to leading operational HR for your designated client groups, you will also play a role in delivering strategic HR objectives, which will include involvement in a large organisational change project during 2020.

Day to Day tasks

  • Operating as a trusted advisor and critical friend to key stakeholders (including 4 board-level positions), providing pragmatic, proactive, and commercially viable advice, support and guidance.
  • Managing complex employee relations casework in a human, robust, and consistent manner to ensure a positive employee relations climate is maintained. This will include coaching line managers through all aspects of people management.
  • Overseeing recruitment onboarding, screening and induction, ensuring full compliance with all pre-employment checks required by school-specific legislation. This will include regularly auditing and signing off pre-employment files.
  • Undertaking talent mapping and succession planning activities in conjunction with other members of the HR team.
  • Working with the Recruitment team to ensure departments have appropriate staffing levels. You will also undertake some interviewing and hands-on selection activities in conjunction with the Recruitment team.
  • Working closely with the HR Director, senior members of the HR team and others on diversity initiatives.
  • Undertaking relevant reward activities, such as annual salary review and the provision of relevant HR metrics and reports.
  • Ensuring that you are a regular, visible, presence to your stakeholders and that your HR Administrator operates in the same way.
  • Upskilling and developing your HR Administrator in line with their personal development needs.
  • Continually looking for ways to improve and standardise the way things are done, recommending areas of opportunity and proposing solutions – from letters, policies and processes to evolving staffing structures, enhancing productivity and strategic objectives.

Support with the upcoming change project

  • Forming part of the ‘change team’, made up of senior members of the HR team and external specialist HR consultants.
  • Supporting the consultation process, including involvement in individual and collective consultations.
  • Working with the wider HR team on pre-consultation activities, including the creation of relevant consultation materials and communication etc.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Hands-on experience of complex and emotive ER casework, which often has no simple resolution. Ideally, you will also have experience of undertaking mediation.
  • The ability to work within ‘shades of grey’ whilst retaining a consistent and human approach to every situation, and to do so when working at pace.
  • Prior experience of working with a varied and demanding client group, and the proven ability to flex your style to meet different needs. Previous experience working with creatives or academics would be advantageous.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the proven ability to quickly build credible relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Prior involvement in a change programme would also be advantageous
